Patch Notes

What's New

Every release since the Division opened: the changes you actually feel at the table.

  1. v2.7

    Two Ways to War

    NewSeptember 5, 2026
    • Narrative Mode is here: pick your combat style when creating an adventure; in Narrative there is no map, fights flow purely through the story, you write your own actions and battle scenes are painted again
    • The host can switch the style from the room too: tap the map icon up top; the choice is only made outside a fight
    • Creativity now pays: bold moves that use the scene and its surroundings earn advantage from the referee; the same trick never pays twice, foes adapt
    • The custom action moved up front: the free-text box now sits at the top of the action panel; tap a named obstacle on the map and your sentence starts with it
    • The story reshapes the battlefield: burning oil turns ground rough, cleared rubble opens a path; what the tale describes lands on the map
    • In a narrative fight your partner asks in words: they propose their move as a sentence, and on your approval that sentence becomes their action
  2. v2.6

    Partners Under Fire

    September 4, 2026
    • Your partner now plays their own turn: they plan a move, mark their cell on the map and ask your approval in chat; answer in plain words, they act on a yes and stand down on a no
    • Hostiles actually fight back now: everyone who gets you in reach strikes; your defense die fits your profession, a bruiser braces, a burglar dodges
    • Moves now have cooldowns: strong tricks and area attacks cannot be pressed every round; the panel shows each move's cooldown and rounds left
    • Cover and support moves are mechanical now: a morale boost grants real advantage on your dice, cover real protection; the roll decides, the effect is guaranteed
    • Move preview: hover a move in the panel and its footprint lights up on the map; fire tones for damage, green for support
    • Kingpins look the part on the map: a large phased health bar and a turning ring; the board locks while the scene is being written
  3. v2.5

    The Tactical Shootout Map

    September 4, 2026
    • Shootouts now play out on a tactical map: every brawl gets a top-down floor painted for your exact scene, with crew and hostiles lined up on the grid
    • Real objects in the painting are the cover: bar counters, toppled tables, crates hold their place on the map; hover shows their name, debris ground costs 2 steps
    • You have a movement budget per round; hostile reach and threat zones show on the map, so who can reach whom is a tactical call now
    • Profession action kits: action points per round, moves picked by cost and range, signature actions on legendary gear, and a damage range shown on every attack
    • Hostiles have faces now: a small portrait is painted for each one and shown on its map token
    • Double-tap the map to ping a spot for your crew; on phones, tapping your own token no longer opens the panel, so you are free to move
  4. v2.4

    The Crew Room

    August 30, 2026
    • Your crew now lives between cases: put them on jobs around the city; they return on their own clocks, with a cut, sometimes roughed up
    • Pick your main character and talk face to face: they know you as their lead, not their boss; they will push back and needle you too
    • They have moods, and everything that happens moves them: jobs, beatings, your own words; mood shows in how they work the street
    • Trust is earned in conversation: anyone will run a quick tail, but risky jobs and long cases open only to crew who trust you; treat them badly and it drains
    • Their memory is real: they talk about their own jobs, cases you worked together, and the bar's whispers; nothing is invented
  5. v2.3

    The File Closes

    August 25, 2026
    • The one-shot format finally reaches the Chief: a short case opens mid-action, skips the build-up, and truly ends, marked complete
    • Bar Whispers prizes are born with the contract: invented from that case, named in your language, never twice running, paid as posted
    • Permanent death is permanent again: the same gap had switched it off, so the fallen never retired. A correction, not a feature
    • Finished cases show it: the card wears a badge, and the room stays readable, just no longer writable
  6. v2.2

    The City Opens

    August 24, 2026
    • The City is open: the new home of life between cases, waiting in the sidebar
    • Bar Whispers: 6 leads a week with CERTAIN rewards (cash or predefined pieces), cover art, and one-click Take the Case
    • The Range: every 8 hours of drill banks +1 Focus use (up to 3); a Focus spent mid-case can fire again
    • Fronts: Newsstand, All-Night Diner, Pawnshop and Jazz Club; ownership is permanent and the till fills while you are away
    • Business pages: upgrade tracks, business levels (extra benches + a deeper till), timed orders and a real ledger
    • Front perks: fresh goods from the stockroom, an unclaimed pledge from the pawnshop every two weeks, and a deadly legendary-prize job at the club every day
  7. v2.1

    The Boss Bites Back

    August 23, 2026
    • Bosses truly fight back: each round hands a hero a defense die; fail it and real damage lands, your armour counts on the save
    • Phase crossings are events now: past a threshold the boss readies a SIGNATURE attack; everyone defends, failures catch bleed/burn
    • Boss difficulty climbs with its phase and never sticks to one flat number all fight
    • Helping Hand balanced: one assist per combat (recharges on rest)
    • The signature move is now 'Focus', and a misclick can be cancelled by pressing again
    • Lying low respects where you are: no diner in a morgue corridor; a 'Lying low…' banner appears the moment you press
    • The human-GM (co-GM) table got an overhaul: your numbers are law, damage/poison/death truly apply, narration reaches the table instantly, joined players can actually play
    • The combat and roleplay intensity you pick at creation now genuinely shapes the story
  8. v2.0

    The Grand Play Update

    August 22, 2026
    • Advantage & Disadvantage: when the referee calls it, two d20s fly; the higher or the lower one counts
    • Helping Hand: lend a shoulder to a crewmate's pending roll and it becomes an advantage pair
    • Status effects: poison, bleed, burn and fear are real conditions now, ticking turn by turn
    • Signature moves: every profession carries one ace to play per fight
    • Lying low: a breath between troubles: wounds close, conditions pass, signature moves recharge
    • Renown: your deeds become street fame (or infamy), and the city treats you accordingly
    • Old Scores: a foe that slips away remembers; they return stronger, scarred, and looking for you
    • Street talk: real cases from other tables travel the city as rumor
    • Allies: the muscle you rally now truly fights shoulder to shoulder with you
  9. v1.8

    Witnesses and Chains

    August 22, 2026
    • Spectator mode: open your table to watchers: a view-only seat via invite link or the friends shelf
    • Chained dice: one die's fate can hinge on another; if the prerequisite falls, the second die never rolls
    • Boss deaths are audited against the dice: the narration can no longer outrun the math of the rolls
  10. v1.7

    Words and Smoke

    August 18, 2026
    • Play by voice: speak your move into the microphone and watch it land in the composer
    • Scene transitions: the old scene catches fire at the corner and burns away for the new one
    • Defense rolls and real fight escalation: pull a piece and the city answers
    • A roomier three-line composer
  11. v1.6

    The Living Scene

    August 16, 2026
    • The scene breathes: a living backdrop, glinting entity names, damage numbers drifting up
    • Fight entrances: a cinematic letterbox
    • Dime-novel initials: the narration's first letter set pulp-large
    • A journey map with chapter dividers: your case becomes a route
  12. v1.5

    Straight Through the Door

    August 12, 2026
    • The no-account trial: no sign-up, no setup: play three turns straight from your browser
    • The default language now follows the country you are in
  13. v1.4

    The City's Dice

    August 10, 2026
    • Three relief dice: carved from the city's own iconography, collector's pieces
    • The dice lab: inspect the dice up close, trying them costs nothing
    • The noir voice runs deeper: German, Italian, French and Spanish rewritten top to bottom in case-file language
    • A real case beat that plays itself on the landing page
  14. v1.3

    The Beat of the Street

    August 7, 2026
    • Dramatic beats: crits, deaths and turning points get their cinematic due
    • The Chief's narration now streams live to the whole crew, letter by letter
    • Friendly fire: a piece can be pulled within the crew, but a crew member never lands in the enemy column
    • Boss fights: three phases, an honest damage ledger, and no one-bullet endings
    • One inventory system, and a new arched portrait frame
  15. v1.2

    The Die Is Yours

    July 30, 2026
    • Two-phase dice: the Chief calls for a roll, and YOU throw it; the whole crew watches live
    • Sculpted 3D dice and a dice collection you pick from your profile
    • Damage now flows from the result of the die
  16. v1.1

    A Free Taste

    July 26, 2026
    • Three free Chief turns for new accounts: see the game before you decide
    • Critical moments: a natural 20 is a feast, a natural 1 a fumble; both leave their mark on the story
    • Worn gear grants your rolls a real edge (+1 to +3)
    • A detective knocked out steps off the stage until healed
    • The mobile room: drawers close with a swipe
  17. v1.0

    • The detective builder: black-and-white AI portraits and full-body poses
    • Realtime crew play: friends, invites, group and voice chat
    • Dice, HP, shootouts, case and witness tracking; the server keeps the ledger
    • A newsprint interface, typewriter type, scene art and smoke-and-jazz music
    • Dollars and cents: a cash economy, market and trades
